How to charge a guest?
You have several options to charge your guest:
-
You can add manual payments to the reservation details page
-
You can create auto payments for all your reservations. This rule will apply to all new reservations but not existing ones
How can I collect my guest's credit card information?
You can send the Guest Portal to your guests so they can enter their credit cards.
Why Is the Cardholder's Name Not Displayed on the Hostaway Dashboard for Payments?
- If you notice that the cardholder's name is missing from the credit card information on your Hostaway dashboard, this is expected behavior, especially for cards added through the Guest Portal
- It occurs due to PCI compliance requirements, which restrict the sharing of sensitive cardholder information between Hostaway and your connected payment service provider (PSP)
- If the cardholder's name is not visible in your Hostaway account, you can typically find it on your PSP's connected account.
Why was the payment for the reservation not charged to the card marked as default?
- The credit card associated with a charge is the one that exists in the reservation at that time
- Even if you later set a different credit card as the default, it will only be the default for new charges, not for existing charges
- For existing charges, you will need to manually edit the charge and add the new credit card.
Why was an offline payment automation marked as paid?
- When an automatic offline payment is scheduled at the time of reservation creation, Hostaway automatically marks the payment as "paid" immediately after the reservation is created.
- This is done to ensure that the payment status reflects the scheduled offline payment, even if the actual payment hasn't been processed yet.
How do Credit Cards work per channel?
Airbnb
Airbnb takes payment for you. No action is required from your side.
Booking.com
- If Booking.com manages payment for you, there is action needed from your side
- If Booking.com sends you a Virtual Credit Card > It is only chargeable after check-in. (learn more here)
- If Booking.com sends you the guest's credit card > Auto-payments should be set
Notes
- In the third scenario above, there is an option in Booking.com where Booking.com enables/disables if you wish the credit cards to have CVC or not. If it is selected that you do not need the CVC, it will come with "000" to Hostaway
- According to Configuring notification settings for credit card details, "By default, your account settings aren’t configured to require CVCs. This is probably the reason you’re not receiving them if you recently listed your property on our platform. If you need to change these settings, contact us via your Extranet inbox and we’ll update them for you."
Vrbo
Vrbo will send you the guest's credit card. You can charge it through Auto-payments.
Expedia
- If Expedia sends you the Virtual Credit Card > It is only chargeable after check-out
- If Expedia sends you the guest credit card > It is chargeable normally
iCal
iCal does not support credit cards.
