Introduction (early access starting June 2025)
Welcome to our guide on implementing Stripe digital wallet payment options in your Hostaway booking system. This guide will help you set up Apple Pay and Google Pay, allowing your guests to make payments directly through Hostaway's booking engine, guest portal, and payment links.
Benefits of Digital Wallet Integration
✅ Reduce manual work by eliminating offline payment processing
✅ Centralize all payment information within Hostaway
✅ Enhance guest experience with flexible payment options
✅ Increase booking conversion rates
Understanding Digital Wallet Payments
Hostaway now supports Google Pay and Apple Pay integration, allowing your guests to use their preferred digital payment methods throughout their booking journey. This feature eliminates the need to handle alternative payments outside the platform.
Key Features
- Seamless Integration: Digital wallet payments work directly within the booking engine
- Multiple Touchpoints: Available in the booking engine, guest portal, and payment links
- Simplified Management: All payment details remain in one centralized location
-
Implementation Status:
- Google Pay: Ready to use with no additional setup required
- Apple Pay: Requires domain verification in your Stripe account (see Section 2)
When Apple Pay/Google Pay Options Appear
Our system intelligently displays payment options based on the guest's device capabilities:
- Automatic Detection: The system automatically detects if the guest's browser or mobile app contains an Apple Pay or Google Pay wallet
- Contextual Display: Payment options only appear when they're available to the guest
- Device-Specific: Different options will show depending on the guest's specific device and browser configuration
What Guests Will See
- Standard Users: Credit/debit card payment options only
- Apple Pay Users: Both credit card and Apple Pay options
- Google Pay Users: Both credit card and Google Pay options
Why Guests Might Not See Digital Payment Options
- Their browser doesn't support these payment methods
- They haven't set up a digital wallet on their device
- Their digital wallet doesn't contain any compatible payment cards
This selective display ensures a streamlined booking experience tailored to each guest's available payment capabilities.
Setting Up Apple Pay Domain Verification
While Google Pay works automatically, Apple Pay requires domain verification through your Stripe account. Follow these steps to complete the setup:
Domain Verification Process
- Access Stripe Settings
- Go to the Stripe Dashboard
- Add Your Domain
- Click on "Add a new domain."
- Click on "Add a new domain."
- Enter Domain Information
- Type in your domain and click "Save"
- Type in your domain and click "Save"
-
Important. You must repeat this process for:
- Each booking engine domain you use
- The guest portal domain (once)
Required Domain Configuration
For digital payments to function properly, domains must be properly configured:
Guest Portal Domains
- The default Guest Portal domain (guest-portal.hostaway.com) must be added to your configuration
Booking Engine Domains
- All Booking Engine domains need to be individually added, such as:
- Standard format domains (e.g., xyz.holidayfuture.com)
- Any custom Booking Engine domains you have set up
Note: Every domain where you want digital payment options to appear must be specifically added to your configuration.
Verification Confirmation
After completing domain verification, Apple Pay will become available as a payment option for your guests. No additional steps are required for Google Pay, which is automatically configured.
