You must be an account admin for both Operto and Hostaway to complete the following process
Importing properties into Operto:
1. Login to your Operto account
2. Click here to navigate to the integrations page
3. Locate ‘Hostway’ and click ‘Connect’. This will open up a new popup window
4. From a new browser tab, login to your Hostaway account
5. Create an API key following the below steps:
- Go to Settings > Hostaway API
- Under the Hostaway Public API, you will find:
- Click on the Create button
- Enter a name
- You will see the API key. We will show it only one time! Make sure to save it

6. Copy the ‘Account ID’. You can find it in Settings:
7. Moving back to your Operto dashboard, paste the copied ID into ‘Account ID’
8. Move back to the Hostaway dashboard and copy the ‘API Key’
9. Paste this into ‘API key’ in the Operto dashboard
10. Once both the ‘Account ID’ and ‘API Key’ are copied from the Hostaway dashboard and into the Operto dashboard, click ‘Connect’
11. Hit the refresh button on your web browser and then you will see that the status will change to ‘Connected’
12. Navigate to the ‘Units’ tab on the left-hand sidebar of your Operto dashboard
13. Click on the ‘unactivated’, tab. You will see a list of all your imported properties
Customizing guest messages to include access codes
For your guests to automatically receive their access codes, you will need to configure your message settings in your Hostaway dashboard
- From your Hostaway account, click on the ‘message’ icon on the left-hand sidebar
- Click on ‘Automations’ on the top right of the navigation pane
- In the body of the custom ‘Message’ field, you will need to include both standard fields from the drop-down menu: {{door_code}} and 1{{door_code}}. These are your check-in and check-out codes respectively.
- You'll also want to ensure you have two messages scheduled to be sent out to the guest:
- The first one will be 1 hour after the reservation has been made with the 'always trigger' box checked
- The second one will be 3 hours before departure time with the always trigger box checked
- Example:
- Introduce {{door_code}} for your check-in instructions and 1{{door_code}} for check out.
Important notes
- If you are using auto or fixed codes these must be disabled in the Hostaway Dashboard before integration:
- In the Hostaway Dashboard, the listing must not have filled in the door code, otherwise, Operto door codes will not work correctly in message automation
- In the Hostaway Dashboard, the listing should have automatically generated codes disabled, otherwise, the code will not be set for Operto-generated locks
