Learn how to connect Stripe to Hostaway, use Stripe for guest payments, and understand the key setup steps needed before processing payments.
Stripe is a payment processor for credit cards. To collect payments or pre-authorize security deposits, you need a payment processor.
If you do not have a Stripe account, please create one by visiting this page.
How the Stripe connection works
- All credit card details given to Hostway will be securely uploaded to your Stripe account
- Once a credit card is successfully transferred to Stripe, you can find it under your Stripe account and pre-authorize or charge the card there
- The Stripe processing fee will be automatically added to the reservation for each processed charge, this information is received directly from Stripe but can be manually modified if needed, note that Stripe does not use currency conversion when passing this fee amount, if the currency on Stripe differs from the listing currency there will be discrepancies as the same amount will be received on Hostaway but with the listing currency, this conversion must be manually updated if needed
- We will process the charge through Stripe according to the listing currency. Keep in mind that Stripe may have specific currency restrictions based on the account origin. You can verify these restrictions on their page https://docs.stripe.com/currencies
- Only cards added to the system after connecting to Stripe will be uploaded. Make sure you connect to Stripe as soon as possible
- You can only connect Hostaway to Stripe if you do not have it connected with Braintree (Hostaway does not allow having both Stripe and Braintree connected for the same Hostaway account)
- If you would like to send automatic receipts, you can read this article
- If you have recently connected a new Stripe account to your Hostaway dashboard and you are having problems collecting payments on existing reservations, it is likely that the credit card information on those reservations is not recognized by the new Stripe account. To resolve this, you can either re-add the credit card information through the Guest Portal or manually charge the reservations directly through Stripe. This is necessary because the new Stripe account was connected after the reservations were created, so the existing credit card information needs to be updated.
