Introduction
As part of our commitment to ensuring the utmost security and privacy of your information, we have implemented security measures within the Hostaway Platform. All users are required to utilize Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) via SMS.
What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
If you are unfamiliar with 2FA, it is a security measure designed to add an extra layer of protection to your account. Instead of only entering your password to log in, 2FA requires additional information.
Where and how 2FA applies
Depending on where you are logging in from, the Dashboard or the Mobile App, the process will be slightly different:
Dashboard login
Magic Link login only (it will not be possible to log in with a 2FA code anymore).
You will receive an email to your email address with a Makic Link.
When you request a 2FA code during login, the email you receive contains:
- The traditional 2FA code (required for mobile app logins)
- A "Yes, this was me" the Magic Link that allows you to log in directly to the dashboard without entering the 2FA code.
- You should open the email and click on "Yes, this was me" on the same browser you started the login. i.e., If you log in to your computer browser and then go to your phone and click the 2FA magic link, it won't work. You will get the following message. So you should complete the whole process on the same browser.
- You should open the email and click on "Yes, this was me" on the same browser you started the login. i.e., If you log in to your computer browser and then go to your phone and click the 2FA magic link, it won't work. You will get the following message. So you should complete the whole process on the same browser.
- A "No, it wasn't me" option to redirect you to the password reset page if you suspect someone might have stolen your password
Mobile app login
Only 2FA code (magic link not supported). A unique code is sent to your mobile phone via SMS
This means even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your account without having access to your email or phone.
An additional recommended step to ensure your privacy and safety includes creating strong passwords.
Guidelines to create a strong password
We recommend following these guidelines to create a strong and secure password:
- Length: Choose a password that is at least 8 characters long. The longer, the better
- Complexity: Include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (!@#$%^&*, etc.)
- Avoid Personal Information: Refrain from using easily guessable information like your name, birth date, or any other personal details
- Unique Password: Do not reuse passwords across multiple platforms
- You can use password generators such as Password Generator Plus or Delinea
- Log in to your Account > Go to the "Account Settings" section
- Scroll down > Click on "Change password"
- Follow the prompts to complete the process
- Save
