Learn how to view and edit listing custom fields from the Hostaway mobile app, including text, number, dropdown, checkbox, and multi-unit custom field behavior.
Overview
Property managers can now edit custom field values on their listings directly from the mobile app. Previously read-only on mobile, custom fields now support all five field types in edit mode – text, textarea, number, dropdown, and checkbox – including multi-unit "Different per unit" behavior. This eliminates the need to switch to the web dashboard for routine updates and keeps listing information current from the field.
Accessing the Feature
Navigate to a listing via the Listings tab or by tapping a listing name from a reservation
In the listing detail view, tap Custom fields in the content section
The Custom Fields list opens, showing all defined custom fields and their current values
The listing detail view shows the property photo, name, ID, address, and key attributes at the top, followed by content sections including Listing Description, Amenities, Bed and bathroom types, Custom fields, House rules, Listing notes, and Cancellation policy.
Custom Fields List
The list displays all custom fields configured for the listing. Each row shows:
The field name in bold
The current value below the name, or a dash when the field has no value
A chevron indicating the row is tappable
Tapping a row opens the field in view mode.
View Mode
The view screen shows the field name as the header and the current value as body text. A pencil edit icon in the top-right corner opens edit mode.
For textarea fields, the full content is displayed as scrollable text. For shorter field types like numbers or text, the value appears as a single line.
Edit Mode
Tapping the edit icon enters edit mode. The screen displays:

Supported Field Types

Multi-Unit Support
When a listing is a multi-unit property and the "Different per unit" toggle is enabled:
Each unit is displayed as a separate card with the unit name and an editable input
Values are saved independently per unit
Automations that reference the custom field variable will pull the correct unit-specific value for each reservation
When the toggle is disabled, a single shared value applies to all units.
Public Status
If a custom field is marked as Public – meaning it is visible on the guest portal – a read-only indicator is displayed. Users can see the public status but cannot change it from mobile. This setting is managed from the web dashboard.

Tap any field to see its full value
Editing a Field
From the field view, tap the edit icon in the top-right
If the field supports multi-unit, toggle "Different per unit" as needed
Enter or modify the value
Tap Save to confirm or Cancel to discard
Permissions
Edit access depends on the user's role and permissions within Hostaway. Users without edit permissions can view custom field values, but will not see the edit icon.
