Disconnecting a Vrbo listing from Hostaway requires careful steps. Unlike other channels, unmatched or improperly removed Vrbo listings can be permanently archived on Vrbo and cannot be recovered. Read this guide fully before proceeding.
Warning: Any Vrbo listing that is not matched during the integration setup is automatically archived by Vrbo and cannot be recovered. Before disconnecting or remapping, make sure you understand which listings will be affected.
Option 1: Temporarily Deactivate a Listing (Self-Service)
Use this option if you want to stop syncing a listing temporarily without breaking the API connection. This is reversible.
Go to Channel Manager > Listing Mapping in Hostaway.
Find the listing and click the Settings icon (gear icon).
Toggle the "Is listed in VRBO" switch to Off.
This stops the listing from syncing with Vrbo but does not remove the underlying API connection. You can reverse this at any time by toggling the switch back On.
Note: This does not unmap the listing permanently. The API connection remains intact. To permanently unmap, see Option 2 below.
Option 2: Permanent Unmapping (Requires Hostaway Support)
Use this option when you need to fully disconnect a listing from Vrbo's API — for example, to move it to another account, stop being billed for it, or permanently retire it. There is no unmap button in the Hostaway dashboard for Vrbo API listings. This must be done by the Hostaway support team.
Contact Hostaway Support and provide the listing ID you want to unmap.
The support team will process the API disconnection on your behalf.
Once confirmed, log in to your Vrbo extranet and manually archive or remove the listing there — unmapping in Hostaway stops the sync but does not delete the listing from Vrbo.
Warning: Permanent unmapping is irreversible. Once a listing is unmapped from Vrbo via API, it cannot be reconnected to the same Vrbo account. If you want to list the property again in the future, you will need to create a new listing in Hostaway and export it to Vrbo from scratch.
Option 3: Pause a Listing (Without Disconnecting)
If you want to temporarily stop accepting bookings without disconnecting from Hostaway:
- Block all future dates in the Hostaway calendar for the affected listing. The blocks will sync to Vrbo, making the listing appear unavailable.
- To pause on Vrbo directly, log in to your Vrbo account and use the listing visibility settings to hide it from search results without disconnecting the integration.
Removing a Listing That Was Created for Testing
If you exported a test listing to Vrbo and want to remove it:
- Contact Hostaway Support to assist with the removal — deleting test listings directly in Vrbo without first unmapping them in Hostaway can cause sync errors.
- Vrbo may archive listings that are disconnected without a proper unmap process.
What Happens to Reservations When You Disconnect
| Scenario | What happens to existing reservations | What happens on Vrbo |
| Unmap a single listing | Existing reservations remain in Hostaway but stop syncing | Listing stays live on Vrbo |
| Disconnect the entire account | Existing reservations remain in Hostaway but stop syncing | Listings stay on Vrbo, managed manually |
| Listing not matched during integration | No reservation data transferred | Listing permanently archived — cannot be recovered |
When to Contact Support
Contact Hostaway Support if you need to permanently unmap a Vrbo listing, if you cannot find the deactivation toggle in Listing Mapping, or if a listing is behaving unexpectedly after deactivation.
