Learn how to contact guests from the Hostaway mobile app using available reservation contact options, including messaging, email, phone, WhatsApp, and copy actions.
Overview
The Contact Guest feature provides a centralized bottom sheet with all available ways to reach a guest directly from the reservation card. Instead of navigating into reservation details to find contact information, users tap a single Contact button to access messaging, email, phone, WhatsApp, and clipboard actions.
Accessing the Feature
The Contact button appears on every reservation card in the Reservations list. It is visible on both Current Stays and Upcoming Guests sections. Tapping it opens the Contact Guest bottom sheet.
The Contact button is also available inside the reservation detail view as a full-width Contact guest button below the reservation summary.
Bottom Sheet Structure
The bottom sheet is divided into sections. Only sections with available guest data are shown.
Send Message – Always Present
| Action | Behavior |
|---|---|
Send message | Navigates to the reservation's conversation thread in the Hostaway inbox |
This is the primary in-app communication channel. Every reservation has an inbox thread, so this option is always available regardless of what contact fields are populated.
Email – Shown When Guest Email Exists
| Action | Behavior |
|---|---|
Compose email | Opens the native mail app with the guest's email address pre-filled |
Copy email | Copies the email address to the clipboard and shows a brief "Copied" confirmation |
Phone – Shown When Guest Phone or Mobile Phone Exists
| Action | Shown When | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
Call |
| Opens the native dialer |
Send text message |
| Opens native SMS with number pre-filled |
WhatsApp message |
| Opens WhatsApp via deep link |
Copy number |
| Copies to the clipboard with confirmation |
Add to contacts |
| Opens the native add-to-contacts flow with available fields pre-filled |
SMS and WhatsApp are only shown when mobilePhone is populated. A general phone number could be a landline, so those options are hidden in that case.
Key Behaviors
The bottom sheet is lightweight with no loading state needed since all guest contact data is already available on the reservation
Send message is always the first option, visually separated as the primary action
When no email or phone data exists at all, the bottom sheet still opens with Send message as the sole option
Copy actions show a brief "Copied" confirmation
WhatsApp deep links require the phone number in international format with country code and no special characters
The Add to contacts action uses the native contact creation flow on iOS and Android, pre-filling all available fields
Available Guest Contact Fields
| Field | Type | Notes |
| Email address | Standard email field |
| Phone number | General/primary – could be a landline |
| Phone number | Mobile-specific number |
There is no dedicated WhatsApp field. WhatsApp availability is inferred from mobilePhone when available.
