Learn how guest data collection works for properties in France, what information must be collected, and how to stay compliant with local registration requirements.
Pursuant to French law (Article R.611-42), all foreign guests, including citizens of EU member states, must be registered upon arrival. This requirement does not apply to French nationals.
Information Required
Each guest who is not a French national is required to provide the following information on the registration form:
- Name and last name
- Date and place of birth
- Nationality
- Address
- Mobile phone and email address
- Date of arrival and planned date of departure
For children under 15 years of age, their details may be entered on the registration form of an accompanying adult.
- The guest (or their accompanying adult) must complete and sign the form upon arrival.
- The property manager must retain the data for six months from the date of departure.
- The form is only transmitted to the police upon request and, if required, may be sent by email.
New guest portal functionality
To automatically collect information from your guests, you can leverage the guest portal's new setting, which is available only for properties located in France.
1. In your listing, select Edit and then Guest Portal settings. Check the 'Collect foreign guest details' options as shown in the image. This option will automatically make the fields mandatory in the check-in form according to the legal requirements.
Note: Any additional questions or settings in the check-in form that were previously set up will continue to be visible.
2. After the guest receives the link to fill out the check-in form, they can complete the information and submit it.
Note: With this setting enabled, guests have the option to add/remove additional guests. This will make it possible for your guests to submit the information of additional persons who will be staying at the property, including children or babies.
3. The guest data will be available to you in two places on the dashboard:
- Download the data in Reservations > Download guest data
- Reservations and scroll down to the Guests section
4. In Listings > Guest Portal, you can find a link to the user guide and here is a link to the template from the police form. You may prefill the fields for your guests or let the guests fill the form themselves. Please remember each adult must sign a form, and children under 15 years of age may be entered on the registration form of an accompanying adult.
Important note:
Adding or removing guests using the check-in form will not affect the reservation price. Additional guests added in the check-in form will be shown in Reservations > Guest section under a new section “Additional guests” with the sole purpose of collecting their data required by law.
