Updating "Read" Status
I am interested in working with one of the Hostaway AI partners to automate my guest messaging. Currently, any 3rd party AI software is unable to update the 'read' status, in the Hostaway Inbox, of a conversation when the AI sends a response to a guest. We need all messages to be marked as "read" in Hostaway upon the AI responding.
This would be incredibly important to my team as we keep up with messages in the Hostaway Inbox by looking at which messages are "unread". By not allowing the 3rd party to update the Read status, it's going to show all those messages as "unread" in the Hostaway Inbox. I have been advised that Hostaway can fix this by updating either of the following fields:
- Conversation object: hasUnreadMessages
- Message object: isSeen

Personally, I don’t think it’s a smart idea to mark messages as read automatically just because an AI responds. Even if the AI sends a reply, it might be addressing a question or request that still needs our attention. Leaving those messages as "unread" helps ensure that a human still reviews them and nothing important slips through the cracks. In my opinion, it's better to keep the inbox behavior as it is.

From what I understand, this feature could either be turned on or off (once Hostaway implements it) by the AI company for each company's specific needs. While it may not be the best option for your company, it would be highly beneficial for mine.

Having this as a toggle feature would indeed be the best way.
