Charging Deposit
FeaturedI discovered today that there's now an option to create a refundable damage deposit and to then not have it sent to Airbnb (this is great). I'd like to create a deposit, but would prefer to actually collect the deposit and then refund the guest assuming there is no damage (the pre-authorizations don't work well because of the limitations on the hold length). Is there a way to create an automatic and/or manual charge for the deposit and to actually collect it at booking, and then manually refund the guest if there are no damages?

Since there's a 7-day limitation for the damage deposit that Stripe can allow it to be held, I suggest creating the damage deposit at least a few days before the guest check-out.
In this way, you will have a good amount of time to review the place and if no damage to the properties. This is the practical approach as you do not have to charge it once everything is good and just leave it to expire within 7 days, or create the charge within the timeframe and get the money for the damages.
