Cross-listings (FAQ)
What are Cross-listings?
You might have a villa type of property where you may want to rent out the villa based on floors or the entire villa.
The Cross-listings feature will allow setting a relationship between the villa and its floors while automatically updates the calendar to avoid undesired scenarios, such as guests booking a floor when the villa is already booked or vice-versa.
How is the relationship set?
Basically, one listing needs to be a parent (the villa) and this parent can have different children (the floors). You can see how to set it up here.
Can the same listing have different parents?
No, one listing can only have one parent.
Can a listing be child and parent at the same time?
No, this is not possible.
What happens if a child is unlinked from a parent?
That child will become independent. In addition, unlinking a child from a parent will keep the affected reservations / blocked dates as they were.
If you wish, after unlinking you can make the dates of the parent/child available again.
How can you identify that the listing is in a cross-listing relation?
Hostaway will show it in several places and make clear that the listing is cross-listed. In case that many listings are shown at the same time (for instance, in channel manager or multi-calendar) the children will be shown immediately after the parent. They will also have identifying icons:
How does a new reservation on a parent affect its children?
Any new reservation on a parent will block its children's calendar days. This is because, if the villa is reserved entirely, the children shouldn't be available anymore.
Any status that blocks the parent calendar days will do the same for its children. Meaning that a new reservation or manually blocking the calendar will block the children's dates as well.
In the multi-calendar and in the individual this will be shown applying lighter colours to the bars, so it can be easily differentiated if the blocking is due to a reservation (light green), manual lock (light grey) or a pending reservation (light orange), for instance.
How does a new reservation on a child affect its parent?
A new reservation on a child will block its parent calendar days, as you cannot offer the villa as a whole anymore.
Any status that blocks the child calendar days will do the same for its parent, meaning that a new pending reservation or manual blocking the calendar will block the parent's dates.
Is it possible to manually block a child without blocking the parent and vice versa?
No, this is not possible.
How does a new reservation on a child affect the other child(ren)?
It doesn’t affect them. The rest of the child(ren) should remain available in case of a blocking event.
What happens after linking a child to a parent with existing reservations in the future?
It might create a multiple booking scenario (only if there are reservations on the same dates).
What happens if you delete or unmap a child or a parent listing?
When a listing is in a parent-child relationship and you try to delete or unmap the listing, you will be informed via a pop-up that only “independent” listings can be deleted/unmapped. Thus, the deleting/unmap attempt will not be possible.
Can we have cross-listings with different booking windows?
No, only listings with the same booking window will be linkable.
Can we use Hostaway iCal links internally with cross-listings?
No, the Hostaway listing iCal links should not be used for other listings by the Custom iCal channel function in the same Hostaway account.
