Braintree is a payment processor for credit cards. You'll need a processor to begin collecting payments from guests using credit cards. Another option is Stripe.
How the Braintree connection works
All credit card details that are given to Hostway will be uploaded to your Braintree account.
Once a card is successfully uploaded, you can find it in your Braintree account and make a pre-authorization or charge the card there.
Notes
- Only cards added to the system AFTER Braintree is connected will be uploaded! Make sure to connect with Braintree as soon as possible
- Please bear in mind that Hostaway only allows having either Braintree or Stripe connected, not both at the same time. If you have Stripe connected, you'll need to deactivate it to be able to connect the account to Braintree
- Hostaway only supports one card per reservation when connected with Braintree

If your Hostaway account is already connected to any payment provider and you would like to change Braintree, it is important to delete any existing Auto-payments and create new ones so they will be connected to Braintree. To manage Auto-payments please check this article
Connecting Braintree
Before you start, please complete the following steps:
- Sign up for Braintree.
- Then, in Hostaway, navigate to settings, and Click Connect Braintree > Click the check Box and Click Next
- For your next steps, you'll need your Merchant ID, your public key, and your private key.

To find your merchant ID:
- Log into either the production Control Panel or the sandbox Control Panel, depending on which environment you are working in
- Navigate to Account > Merchant Account Info
- You'll find your merchant ID at the top of this page.
Your merchant ID can also be found when logged into your Control Panel, as the string of letters and numbers following /merchants/ in the URL.

To find your public key:
- Log into either the production Control Panel or the sandbox Control Panel, depending on which environment you are working in
- Navigate to Settings > API Keys
You'll find your public key under the API Keys section at the top. If no API keys appear, click Generate New API Key.

To find your private key:
- Log into either the production Control Panel or the sandbox Control Panel, depending on which environment you are working in
- Navigate to Settings > API Keys
- In the API Keys section, click View under the Private Key column
Your private key will be revealed in the Private Key column on the next page.
