If you're changing the Stripe account linked to your Hostaway account and no longer wish to use your current Stripe account (Stripe Account A), and are replacing it with a different Stripe account (Stripe Account B), there are a few important things to consider, especially if you have existing reservations with active payments or auto-payments set up.
Do the Autopayments Need to Be Deleted and Recreated?
- Yes, it is recommended that you delete and recreate the auto-payments when switching Stripe accounts
- The auto-payments are tied to your Stripe account, and when you change accounts, the existing auto-payments will no longer be linked to the new Stripe account
- This can ensure that future payments are properly processed through your new Stripe account.
Will Payments for Existing Reservations Be Charged to the New Stripe Account?
- For reservations that have already been made, where the guest has made their initial payment and deposit to Stripe Account A, the next payment and pre-authorization will not be automatically processed through Stripe Account B
- This is because the credit card information is stored in Stripe Account A, and the scheduled payments will still be processed through the original Stripe account.
What You Need to Do
If you choose to replace your Stripe account, here are the steps to ensure proper handling of existing reservations:
- Existing credit card information. The credit cards previously provided by guests will remain stored on Stripe Account A
- Scheduled charges. These will not be processed automatically through Stripe Account B.
- Remaining balance. The remaining balance will need to be manually charged through Stripe Account A
- Manual update. The reservation will need to be updated with offline transactions to reflect the payments processed through Stripe Account A.
Recommended Action
- Switching Stripe accounts can complicate the payment process for existing reservations
- If possible, we recommend keeping the original Stripe account active for managing any remaining balances or charges for existing bookings
- If it’s absolutely necessary to replace your Stripe account, you will need to work on a management transition plan to manually handle the charges.
